Amish : Let's go back to the past (20/10/2011)

We left the school at 8h30 and it was very cold. After one hour and a half of trip, we arrived at a touristic place, the Amish Experience Theater. There was a shop where we bought a lot of Amish souvenirs. Then we attended a show called Jacob's Choise Experience, it was the story of the Fisher family and Jacob who had to choose between either remain an Amish or live in the modern world. After the show, we lunched outside and it was really really cold ! A guide called Paul first led us through the Esh's farm (where the movie had been shot), we saw cows and mules.

   

An important point to underline : the Amish don't want people to take pictures of them. Then we went to another farm where we met Sam, an Amish, who answered our questions about their way of life and their philosophy.

Actually, the rules are based on preserving family values. They have a dress code : straw hat, shirt and black trousers with suspenders for men (married ones have to wear beard) and plain dress for women, their hair is always tied and they always wear a bonnet. Finally we went to an Amish shop specialized in Quilts (patchwork) that most women sew. We came back to FCS and had a great time !
